A recent study has shown that more than 65 percent of adults and over 30 percent of children are overweight or obese, and with obesity comes numerous health problems, including cardiovascular conditions, diabetes and musculoskeletal disorders. Since in most cases the basic cause of obesity is consumption of unhealthy diet and insufficient physical activity, it is no surprise that obesity and its related health issues can be easily countered through proper nutrition and sufficient physical activity.
This free online course, as the name suggests, has been designed to provide the basic nutritional knowledge to the participants so that they could develop a sustainable pattern of healthy eating. Besides providing the students a foundation of nutritional knowledge, they will also be taught different physical activities and workouts necessary for living a healthy life. This course will address key health issues prevalent in the society and will provide information on how you can devise effective strategies to promote a healthy lifestyle through balanced diet and physical activity.
No specific background is required for this course. Anyone interested in understanding impact of these two key lifestyle behaviours on a person’s overall health and quality of life can take this course; however, basic knowledge of nutrition and physical activity may be helpful. The participants do not need to be available at specific time, though each module needs to be completed within a specific time, usually 1 week in length.
