Directly.me Scuba diving in Djibouti – a guide to plumbing the unexplored depthsWhile its popularity continues to increase, scuba diving is hardly a new activity. The Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the Cayman Islands, and Bali in Indonesia – scuba diving enthusiasts have explored them all, and if you have visited all the top scuba diving spots, you are likely to be in search of a challenging new location.
Virtually unknown to the outside world, Djibouti is an underrated country located on the Horn of Africa, and an absolute jewel when it comes to scuba diving. Lack of publicity and general interest have kept it off the scuba diving radar, but Djibouti is a pristine, untouched bio-diverse paradise and the coastline of the country, located on the southwest extreme of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Tadjourah, is brimming with the unexplored. While it might be a great location, however, the place is not frequented by many, and this makes it difficult to plan a scuba diving trip to Djibouti.
Being an experienced and adventurous scuba diver, the desire for a new challenge led me to Djibouti and since then, I have gone on to visit the country 8 times and counting. Djibouti is a liveboard destination, and the scuba diving experience here is unlike any other. Having spent a great deal of time in the waters here, I have become familiar with everything there is to know about scuba diving in Djibouti.
In order to put my insider’s experience to good use, I have put together a guide on everything you need to know if you are interested in scuba diving in Djibouti. The guide provides information on:
- All the prime locations for scuba diving in the country
- The best times to visit
- The unique and fascinating ocean life you can encounter during different times of the year
- Helpful tips in regards to doctors, the equipment you will need, the water temperature, and the general climate.
