- Do you want to know what health challenges the world is facing today?
Professors of the University of Copenhagen have offered an eight weeks long free online course to help people get an overview of the most important health challenges we are facing today. The participants of the course will get to know how these challenges have changed over time and what the determinants of such changes are? This free online course will also share with you some of the successful international strategies and programs used to promote human health in different parts of the world. Global health governance structures and role of key indicators will also be discussed in the course.
The course has been designed believing that good health has a close link with personal satisfaction, advancement of people, their productivity and ultimately the socio-economic development of nations. Influence of globalization on health of individuals and the function of global health systems is also included in the course. Students will be asked to think critically about the health challenges faced by the people around the world and some up with realistic solutions to overcome the challenges and achieve good health around the world.
No special background is required, anyone interested in global health issues can take this course. After successfully completing this class you will get a signed statement of accomplishment.
Authors Bio
This course has been jointly offered by Flemming Konradsen, Siri Tellier, Dr Alessandro Demaio, Jeffrey Victor Lazarus, Dan Wolf Meyrowitsch and Peter Furu.
Professor Flemming Konradsen has more than twenty years of research in environmental and global health and is currently teaching international environmental health at the University of Copenhagen.
Ms Siri did her Masters from Harvard School of Public Health in 1970, with major in public health demography. She has also worked as Director of International Department of Red Cross in Denmark (1992-2001).
Dr Alessandro has a PhD fellowship in Global Health with the University of Copenhagen.
Jeffrey Victor Lazarus is a Professor of International Health Systems at Copenhagen University and an Affiliated Professor at the Medical School, Porto University.
Dan Wolf Meyrowitsch, an Associate Professor and Epidemiologist at Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen.
Peter Furu, former Head of the WHO Collaborating Centre of Health and Environment in Sustainable Development, currently holds position as Senior Adviser at the Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology of University of Copenhagen.
